Woven and constructed in Fukuoka since 1971, Kurume Kasuri aim to modernise a traditional weaving style which has a history in Japan reaching back over 220 years.

Kasuri (絣) is a process of skilfully binding warp and/or weft threads before they are indigo dyed. Once woven, undyed sections create complex and distinctive patterns, often with soft or 'blurred' edges; the verb kasureru (かすれる) means "to blur" or "to fade".

In 1957, the traditional techniques of Kurume Kasuri were designated an Important Intangible Cultural Property of Japan, and the company is proud to preserve this beautiful tradition with simple designs for daily use.
