Wonki and J : meadow vase

$128.00

A modest square ceramic vase by Wonki and J gives a single stem or small bunch of wild flowers an elegant setting - the sort of vase tat makes everything look good with no fussing required. Just as lovely sitting empty, its white slip glaze displays a landscape of drips, crackles, and spots, while the irregular edges reveal the iron rich clay beneath.

Because every Wonki and J piece is made by hand, you can expect your little vase to have unique surface markings as well as a form that's all its own.

made in Melbourne by Wonki and J

Wonki and J is the work of creative couple Wonki Kim and Jaeha Lee, making simple pieces for daily use. From their Melbourne studio they skilfully combine 15th century Joseon Dynasty Buncheong Dumbeong pottery techniques with a minimalist sensibility and influences from their Korean heritage.

In Buncheong ceramics, white slip slides across iron-rich clay forms. The blistering heat of the kiln captures the slip’s flow and movement in beautiful drips and pools, sprinkled with unique iron spots, pits, and crackles.

The results are at once wild and constrained, the couple’s minimalist forms communicating stillness and quiet strength.
