Wonki and J : plate

$98.00

This wheel-thrown ceramic plate gives breakfast, cake, or a simple supper a picturesque place to land. Just as lovely empty as it is laden, its white slip glaze displays a lunar landscape of drips and spots, while the wonderfully wonky edges reveal the iron rich clay beneath. A beautiful and very useful piece for any collector's table.

Because every Wonki and J piece is made by hand, you can expect your plate to have unique surface markings as well as a form that's all its own.

made in Melbourne by Wonki and J

Wonki and J is the work of creative couple Wonki Kim and Jaeha Lee, making simple pieces for daily use. From their Melbourne studio they skilfully combine 15th century Joseon Dynasty Buncheong Dumbeong pottery techniques with a minimalist sensibility and influences from their Korean heritage.

In Buncheong ceramics, white slip slides across iron-rich clay forms. The blistering heat of the kiln captures the slip’s flow and movement in beautiful drips and pools, sprinkled with unique iron spots, pits, and crackles.

The results are at once wild and constrained, the couple’s minimalist forms communicating stillness and quiet strength.
