Its soft, white slip glaze displays a landscape of drips, crackles, and spots that show the iron rich clay beneath, making an ideal vase to fill with chaotic greenery, tumbling blooms, or simply as an elegant sculptural piece.

made in Melbourne by Wonki and J

Wonki and J is the work of creative couple Wonki Kim and Jaeha Lee, making simple pieces for daily use. From their Melbourne studio they skilfully combine 15th century Joseon Dynasty Buncheong Dumbeong pottery techniques with a minimalist sensibility and influences from their Korean heritage.

In Buncheong ceramics, white slip slides across iron-rich clay forms. The blistering heat of the kiln captures the slip’s flow and movement in beautiful drips and pools, sprinkled with unique iron spots, pits, and crackles.

The results are at once wild and constrained, the couple’s minimalist forms communicating stillness and quiet strength.
