Bread in a can? In Japan, long-life food is a familiar part of emergency planning, but practical can still be delicious and a little unexpected. Of course, you don't have to wait for an emergency to eat it, take it camping, pack it for a road trip, keep it in the desk drawer for afternoon chocolate emergencies, or give it to a curious eater as a rather unusual gift.

Pan Desuyo! contains two soft, lightly sweet pieces of bread, generously scattered with cocoa-rich chocolate chips. Chocolatey enough to feel like a treat, but not overly sweet, each piece is wrapped in paper so it can be lifted neatly from the can and eaten straight away.

Don’t throw away the can when you’ve finished, turn it into a tiny time capsule, miniature diorama, emergency sewing kit, or windowsill planter.
