Kunizukuri : small constellation plate
These small plates make a lovely addition to the table holding condiments and side dishes, or as a trinket holder at the bedside. The plate's surface pattern is created when its white glaze is carefully scraped off with a special needle. The base of the glaze is pre-coated with a locally sourced iron-rich decorative clay (which turns brown after firing), allowing the contrast to peek through.
Tottori Prefecture offers an ideal environment for astronomical observation, with the Milky Way visible from every city and town. The line pattern of this series is designed to resemble such constellations, with many stars connecting with one other.
