A small and oval in shape with purple glaze, this ceramic dish is handy for Japanese pickles or small side dishes at the table, use as a soap dish, or a special place for jewellery.

Simplicity of form and decoration is a key feature of hagi ware. Kunnyu (small cracks in the surface) allow moisture to slowly seep into the clay, ultimately changing the colour of the piece over time. It is this transformative nature of hagi ware that makes it highly prized amongst collectors.
