Kasuri : leaves long sleeve dress
This extraordinary shirt dress is a stunning summer piece which could also be worn as an open duster coat, or layered in cooler months. Cleverly constructed from multiple curved panels to create a full, flowing silhouette, the kasuri woven cotton showcases a loosely abstract woven leaf pattern. A button-through style with concealed placket, it has two side in-seam pockets, a round, collarless neckline with stud fastening, and full raglan sleeves. The cuffs close with two buttons set into a deep diagonal opening, a rather masterful piece of tailoring that's subtle, thoughtful and delightful to wear.
material : 100% cotton
care :
Unevenness and complexity are a lovely feature of authentic indigo's natural character. Some colour may transfer to lighter surfaces, so take care during the first 5 washes.
We recommend separate cold hand washing for this piece. Do not wring, but press excess water out (or blot by rolling in a flat towel), then hang to air dry in the shade. Iron the reverse with a cool iron if you really want to.
length : 116cm
chest : 120
hip : 126cm
sleeve : 66cm
Woven and constructed in Fukuoka since 1971, Kurume Kasuri (aka Giemon) aim to modernise a traditional weaving style which has a history in Japan reaching back over 220 years.
Kasuri (絣) is a process of skilfully binding warp and/or weft threads before they are indigo dyed. Once woven, undyed sections create complex and distinctive patterns, often with soft or 'blurred' edges; the verb kasureru (かすれる) means "to blur" or "to fade".
In 1957, the traditional techniques of Kurume Kasuri were designated an Important Intangible Cultural Property of Japan, and the company is proud to preserve this beautiful tradition with simple designs for daily use.
