tabito: silver and steel spectacle necklace
Archivists of overlooked beauty, tabito restore lost artefacts of daily life from a forgotten past. Pieces in this collection have been meticulously assembled from vintage and antique machinery parts, jewellery findings, semi-precious stones and industrial ephemera collected in Japan and throughout Europe, to bring you a little piece of history to wear and treasure. Each piece is unique, thoughtfully composed and constructed in Tabito’s Belgium workshop.
This astonishing pendant showcases a vintage steel lorgnette- a pair of hand-held spectacles- on a vintage silver pocket watch chain, all in beautifully preserved condition. These spectacles still work, and the two lenses spring gently open when their catch mechanism is released. The word lorgnette is derived from the French 'lorgner', meaning to take a sidelong look, and this curious, artfully constructed piece will certainly attract and reward closer inspection ...
