boxed kokeshi collection
In the 1990's Sony Family Club members waited each month for the postman to deliver something very special. Can you imagine receiving a different kokeshi each month by subscription? Handcrafted by masters of their trade, each mail-order dolls exemplified one of the traditional regional decorative styles.
We were very fortunate to have sourced all 15 dolls from the original release. Now you can choose which of these kokeshi will be delivered to your door and added to your own collection.
Each boxed kokeshi is signed by the maker, and comes with a booklet that includes an artist biography and notes on the style.
style: Tsugaru
Stylistically, Tsugaru kokeshi are quite different from the other traditional 'families'. They often have curvaceous bodies, topknot hair styles, rosy cheeks, and unusual motifs. The daruma face, representing the founder of Zen buddhism, is one of the more common decorative motifs.
