the heritage project 2023

tactile blend of curated antique and vintage materials hand-sourced in Japan, this indigo dyed shoulder bag is a unique piece that brings history and texture to your wardrobe.

With a simple, unlined main body framed by indigo ruffles with unfinished edges, this clever design amplifies the age and history of its semi-sheer fabric. The shoulder strap is encased in matching gathers, finishing an elegant but playful piece to draw attention night or day.

colour : ink

materials :
• fabric : cotton, gauze
• strap : gauze

care :
This piece is composed from decades-old fabric and has components of antique indigo dyed fabric, hand-sourced in Japan. Treated with care and respect, it will live on with you for many years.

Authentic, plant-derived indigo dyes impart rich and lively colour, but require extra care.

Unevenness and complexity are part of its natural character. Unlike synthetic dye, you can expect some indigo to transfer to lighter surfaces- even your skin- so take care during the first 5 washes.

Store away from direct sunlight, and carefully hand wash in cold water when needed. Do not wring but gently blot, reshape while damp, and air dry in the shade.

• depth 34cm
• width, including ruffle 51cm
• strap length 95cm

This unique piece is part of the heritage project 2023 by LJ struthers and the maker, a creative response to the beauty, longevity, and cultural history of its fabric components.

Every piece is designed and made in Hobart in a spirit of care for the craftsmanship of the past.

With you we share a respect for vintage and antique textiles which should not be abandoned to dust, but celebrated and worn, re-mended and reimagined, part of the fabric of a beautiful life.
