A veritable library of Japanese Meisen silks inspires the work of Keiko Aoki, new to the maker this week. More than a collector of vintage kimono (she has over 2000, but who's counting?), Keiko has an eye for the spectacular colours and Art Deco influenced motifs of the Taisho and early Showa Eras. Textile tragics will delight in bringing these fragments of original, hand woven radiance into the light of everyday...

Each unique pouch enfolds a  22 page concertina style notebook, crafted from fine grained and sturdy  japanese paper in the Goen shuin cho ('honorable stamp book') tradition.  Carried to temples and shrines for the collection of stamps unique to each site, stamps are printed into these books by temple staff, with further text added in calligraphy to mark the visit. With a cover of vintage meisen silk to match its pounch, the book may also be used by artists or writers, and the simple enveope case could also hold a brush pen or other travel essentials. Finished with a long waxed cotton wrap cord, this is a unique companion for the journey to beautiful places whether real or imagined...
