the heritage project 2023

This magnificent silk scarf of exaggerated length showcases shibori, an ancient Japanese resist dyeing technique that derives its name from the Japanese word 'shiboru,' which means to wring, squeeze, or press.

This method, specifically kanoko shibori, involves tying tiny pinched knots in the fabric before dyeing and then releasing them individually. This not only forms intricate dye patterns but also imparts a distinctive texture, resulting in dynamic draping and contraction when worn. Additionally, sections along the edges remain untouched, creating delightful ruffles on each scarf.

colour : indigo & chalk
fabric : shibori indigo dyed silk
