tabito : forged steel bangle with split screw head
Archivists of overlooked beauty, tabito restore lost artefacts of daily life from a forgotten past. Pieces in this collection have been meticulously assembled from vintage and antique machinery parts, jewellery findings, semi-precious stones and industrial ephemera collected in Japan and throughout Europe, to bring you a little piece of history to wear and treasure. Each piece is unique, thoughtfully composed and constructed in tabito’s Belgium workshop.
These forged hinging bracelets are made from the original steel axels from a 1940’s Remington adding machine, and lock with screws from vintage sewing machines. Blackened with a traditional Japanese technique using green tea and bees wax, the bangles are durable but should be dried after becoming wet. The black patina will slowly fade with time, and the edge of the rivet and locking screw will get shiny due to daily use, adding to the patina of the bangle.
